Anyone can now join Athletes 4 Siblings. You don’t have to be an elite athlete to run. We welcome everyone who wants to get involved with our community and who is keen to help a sibling.
We need supporters, sponsors, family and friends. The more the merrier!
Every day pediatric cancer affects families. There are thousands of programs dedicated to helping a child with cancer but oftentimes their siblings are left forgotten. With so much of everyone’s energy and focus going to their brother or sister with cancer, siblings experience a range of emotions:
They feel confused – they may not understand what’s happening and are worried about their brother or sister
They feel jealous – because their brother or sister appears to be getting special treatment
They feel lonely – they are missing their sibling and playmate, and missing their parents who are always at the doctor’s office and hospital
They feel sad – as if no one understands what they are going through
They feel afraid – they are unsure what will happen to their brother or sister
Cancer affects the entire family and is just as upsetting to the lives of brothers and sisters of children diagnosed with cancer as it is to the children physically fighting cancer.
Honor a sibling by running your race on his or her behalf!
Hope So Bright’s Athletes 4 Siblings program will pair a runner who will run a race in honor of a child whose brother or sister has cancer not only to show support during a difficult time but also to form a lifelong friendship.
